School Bus Riding Rules
- Students must be at their pick-up points on time.
- The driver is in complete charge of the bus at all times and
may routinely discipline students and assign seats as necessary.
- Students are to take their seats as soon as they enter the bus
and are not to leave their seats while the bus is in motion.
- Bus windows may only be opened and closed with the driver's permission.
- At no time may anyone put any part of his/her body outside the
windows.
- Loud talk, foul language, throwing objects or horseplay will
not be permitted on the school bus at any time.
- Smoking is not allowed on school buses.
- Parents or guardians of students who vandalize the buses will
be financially responsible for these acts.
- Riding a school bus is a privilege and not a right and, as such,
can be taken away for inappropriate conduct. When an individual
ignores the rules and driver's discipline, the driver shall report
the student to the principal. The principal shall notify the student's
parents or guardian of the behavior. If the situation does not improve,
the principal will suspend bus riding privileges. The first suspension
for elementary students will be for two days, after which the pupil's
riding privileges will be reinstates for a four week probationary
period. If a second offense occurs during this period, the student
will be suspended for an additional five days. The first suspension
for non-elementary student will be for two weeks, after which the
pupil's riding privilege will be reinstated for a four-week probationary
period. If a second offense occurs, during this period, the student
may be suspended from riding the bus for the remainder of the school
year. Any time that riding privileges are revoked, it is the responsibility
of the parent or guardian to transport these students to school.
If at any time, the seriousness of the student's conduct so warrants,
the principal is his/her judgment may suspend the student's bus
privileges with a warning period and the parent/guardian will be
duly notified. Any decision may be appealed to the superintendent.
- Prior written permission from parents/guardians must
be given for a student to ride on a different bus or to a destination
other than his/her home. Your child must bring a note if the normal
pick-up arrangements are changed. We must be made aware of changes
in transportation to the home.
Cars and Walkers
The safety of children is our primary concern. Remember when dropping
off or picking up students, it is illegal to pass a school bus on the
highway or in the school yard when the red lights are flashing. Children
cross the driveway frequently-please be careful!
Parents/guardians who are transporting students should not drop them
off before 7:45 a.m. If this is not possible, please contact the principal
to make different arrangements. No formal supervision exists at the Village
School before 7:45 a.m. in the morning. Between 7:45 and 8 a.m.,
use the parking lot at the north end of the building to drop off privately
transported students. In the afternoon, buses load at about 2:35 p.m.
Therefore, please do not pull in to pick up students until after 2:40
p.m.
If your child/children are to be picked up by someone other than yourself
or the person who usually picks them up, a note must be submitted to
the classroom teacher explaining the situation before the children will
be released for that pick-up.
