Course Information:
Language Arts (Grade 2)—Syllabus

Language Art is communication. The purpose of learning language arts concepts,
skills and content is to enable us to be life long learners, to participate
in the exchange of oral and written language for information and pleasure,
and to think critically. Students best learn language arts when actively engaged
in the processes of listening , speaking, reading, writing, and thinking in
all curriculum areas. Langage arts concepts, skills and content are best learned
in a developmental sequence, which integrates these processes.
Math (Grade 2)—Syllabus

Mathematics is the universal language of symbols which allows us to reason
logically, communicate, analyze, interpret, and solve real problems. Students
best learn mathematics by going from the concrete to the abstract. They best
learn when various methods of instruction are used and when they see connections
between mathematics and the real world. Children are encouraged to investigate,
think in different ways, and to take risks.
Social Studies (Grade 2—Syllabus

It is the purpose of social studies to provide our students with the knowledge,
values, and skills to become productive, involved citizens of the world. Social
studies provide better understanding of historical and current events, cultures
and geography. Social studies prepare our students to make decisions that will
contribute to the betterment of our local and global communities.
Science (Grade 2)—Syllabus

Science is the study of living and nonliving forms. It is a process involving
problem solving, science knowledge, and the intersection of science, technology,
and society. The purpose of learning science concepts, skills, and content
is to relate and apply science knowledge in a practical way, and to have a
clear understanding of how and why things are the way they are. Students best
learn science concepts, skills, and content when they have hands-on experiences,
when they practice and apply the scientific process, and when they learn in
an interdisciplinary context.
