Save For Success Program

Wise money management is a skill we all need to develop. That is why Union Bank and your child's school are joining together to bring students the Save for Success school savings program.

Students will learn the principals of savings, how to manage money and the importance of investing money for return.

Account information:

  • Use of a Save for Success savings account. Elementary school students have joint accounts with a parent/guardian. Middle and high school students may have individual accounts with parental permission.
  • Accounts for elementary school age students will require two signatures for withdrawal.
  • The minimum balance required is $1.00 and Union Bank gives the first dollar to any student who wishes to participate.
  • There are no service charges on the account until the student reaches age 18. At age 18, the account is converted to a regular savings account available at that time and is subject to all service charges.
  • Interest will be earned on all deposits and will be paid at a rates set by Union Bank. For the rate currently in effect, please see the enclosed Truth in Savings Disclosure form.
  • Students are given a small zipper pouch that is used to safely transport the deposit to school. The parent volunteer s will enter the amount of the deposit in the register.
  • Statements will be mailed home on a quarterly basis. The student and/or parent are responsible for balancing the statement to the register and entering the interest eared in the register. Discrepancies should be reported to the bank's bookkeeping department at 888-4500.

Deposits and Withdrawals:

  • A weekly banking day will be held at the school and is run by parent volunteers.
  • During the set banking time, student share the opportunity to make a deposit of ANY AMOUNT to their savings account.
  • cash and checks are accepted for deposit. However, please refrain from endorsing checks until the student is present at the banking day OR endorse the checks "For deposit only to the account of (name), account number *(insert account number)
  • Deposits may also be made at any Union Bank branch office.
  • Withdrawals must be made at a Union Bank branch office.
  • The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insures all deposits up to $1000,000.
  • The parent volunteers will rubber stamp a "UB" in the interest credited section of the savings register as a receipt for the deposit.

Union Bank offers the school savings program as a service to parents, teachers, and children in its communities.

The parent volunteers and the Union Bank staff firmly believes that educating young people today will create better informed adults capable of making intelligent investment decisions tomorrow.
