Elementary Physical Education

Physical Education is an essential part of the Craftsbury School curriculum. It consists of experiences which promote the development of motor skills, strength, stamina, and social characteristics that contribute to effective citizenship.

The purpose of physical education is to introduce students to a planned sequence of learning experiences designed to fulfill the growth and developmental needs of each student.

Goals of the program are:

  • To provide exercise on a regular basis
  • To have students develop a variety of motor skills including but not limited to running, jumping, throwing, catching and kicking.
  • To have students develop attitudes of fair play, sportsmanship, and cooperation.
  • To have students develop a positive self concept.
  • To have student develop the positive attitude that exercise is "fun".

A variety of activities is used to achieve the goals. Activities include, but are not limited to: soccer, dodge ball, whiffleball, floor hockey, tag games, basketball, scooter soccer, Frisbee activities, jump rope, racquet sports and cooperative new games. Students also have the opportunity to cross country ski and participate in an annual fall hike.

During January and February, students take part in an extensive cross-country ski program at the Craftsbury Center. Children at the Elementary School also enjoy a mountain hike as part of the outdoor program.
