Guidance Information

Guidance services in Craftsbury are both comprehensive and developmental. The program is intended to be available and accessible to all students. The program is designed to provide each student with the knowledge and practice in skills which facilitate the social and intellectual growth of each individual.Services at the Elementary School are divided into five key components.

  1. Large group (classroom) guidance: The development and delivery of age appropriate activities in each class is done on a weekly basis. Focus is on such areas as the enhancement of self-esteem, development of social skills, strengthening peer relationships, and conflict resolution techniques and problem solving.
  2. Small group counseling: Small groups of six or fewer children address issues of special need or interest such as self-esteem, friendship building, coping with divorce or loss, and anger management. Selection for a group can be by teacher or parent referral and/or student self-referral.
  3. Individual counseling: Individuals may meet with counselor in order to work on such things as problem solving techniques or getting along with others.
  4. Consultation services: The counselor is actively involved in working with teachers, administrators and parent to support the delivery of educational services and student learning. Consultation can take place in the form of parent conferences, and/or faculty/staff meetings.
  5. Coordination services: Services are intended to integrate guidance in the daily life of the student. The counselor is available to act as a resource for information and referral for a wide range of services available in the community.
